Our ranch to Mineola, TX |
Mineola Civic Center and RV Park - our summer travel begins with the Texas W rally. |
3 |
April 18, 2010 |
Mineola, TX to Knoxville, AL |
Knox Hill RV Resort - Site #3 - okay for an overnight stop, noisy due to the nearby Interstate Hwy. |
4 |
April 19, 2010 |
Knoxville, AL to Gaffney, SC |
Gaffney KOA - Site #80. As I recall the sites weren't that level. Enclosed dog run, I would stay there again. |

April 20, 2010 |
Gaffney, SC to Surrey, VA |
Chippokes Plantation State Park - we volunteer at this park when we're in the area. Site B10 is mostly satellite-friendly, 50 amp and water in the "B" (newest) loop. |

May 3, 2010 |
Surrey, VA, to Luray, VA |
Luray RV Resort (Country Waye) - Came here for a couple of days and stayed for a couple of weeks! This is a hidden gem and a destination RV park. It is beautifully maintained (Swiss owners) and many of the sites surround a very large grass field (we were in #99). Lots to see in the area (an hour to Harper's Ferry) and the interesting Luray Caverns is nearby. |

May 20, 2010 |
Luray, VA to Millersville, MD (DC area) |
Capitol KOA - Site #4 - the most expensive RV park we have ever stayed in - I think we were paying about $70 a night and that was with their discount card. WOW! Interior roads were in fair to poor condition. They have some satellite friendly sites. Very friendly and helpful staff. This place is popular with the locals and is an absolute zoo on the weekends. The only reason we stayed here was to attend the Naval Academy graduation of a good friend's son. Congrats Ensign Rohane! |

May 31, 2010 |
Millersville, MD to Linwood, NC |
Crosswinds Family Campground - The first site we were assigned was so un level, we moved to #C8. Due to a poorly planned layout, we could not relocate with the toad attached - there was no room to make a go-around so we had to unhook the car and then change sites. It had rained and several water hookups were underwater - not a good thing for health reasons. This campground has a lot going for it - it's new and many of the roads are paved, you can have a site in the open, or under the trees, but they need to address some infrastructure issues. |

June 1, 2010 |
Linwood, NC to Gaffney, SC |
Freightliner Factory Service - our dash air quit working |
10 |
June 3, 2010 |
Gaffney, SC to Selma, NC |
RVacation Campground - Site G1 - good overnight stop, close to the Interstate so it will be a bit noisy. We stayed here last year. |
11 |
June 4, 2010 |
Selma, NC to Bayboro, NC |
River's Edge Family Campground - Closest RV park to our friends that live in Oriental. Nice place (nothing fancy though), friendly owners, right on the water, church service on Sunday morning. |
12 |
June 8, 2010 |
Bayboro, NC to Lugoff, SC |
Columbia/Camden RV Park - If it were not for the fact there were RVs scattered around the property, you might think it is abandoned. Park is old, tired and lacking TLC. We were in site #23 and we could not get the Datastorm (Internet) dish to find the satellite, but the park had WiFi. |
13 |
June 9, 2010 |
Lugoff, SC, to Heflin, AL |
Cane 9 Creek RV Park - Great overnight stop, long and level sites, quiet at night but handy to I-20 |
14 |
June 10, 2010 |
Heflin, AL to Vicksburg, MS |
Ameristar RV Park - Time to gamble! Sites (unfortunately) are not long enough for a 40' coach and attached toad - must have been designed by somebody that was clueless. Paved roads, concrete pads, open for satellite TV and Internet. Ameristar casino was like most of the others - stinky with tobacco smoke (and the food in the sit-down restaurant was no bargain.) Slots were stingy - no reason to come back. |

June 12, 2010 |
Vicksburg, MS to Gladewater, TX |
Antique Capital RV Park - we stayed here to visit a family friends in nearby Marshall. Large and fairly new RV park albeit not especially handy to the Interstate. |
16 |
June 13, 2010 |
Gladewater, TX to home |
Back at our little ranch for projects! |
17 |
July 5, 2010 |
Home to Thackerville, OK |
Red River Ranch RV Resort - We were in site #240, Passport America rate was $13, this was a great overnight stop. We'll stay here again. |
18 |
July 6, 2010 |
Thackerville, OK to South Haven, KS |
Oasis RV Park - Always on the list of our regular places we stop when going up or down I-35. Nothing fancy, but the sites are level, long and you have full hookups with 50 amp (and you get a good Passport America rate.) |
19 |
July 7, 2010 |
South Haven, KS - Holt, MO |
JJ Campground. The owners are closing the campground after this season. Very tight maneuvering for us and we have a 55* wheel cut! Now we are back to our problem of where to stay about 300 miles north of South Haven KS when on our way to Iowa. |
20 |
July 8, 2010 |
Holt, MO to Clear Lake, IA |
Oakwood RV park - A hidden gem about 30 miles south of the Winnebago factory! |
21 |
July 12, 2010 |
Clear Lake, IA to Forest City, IA |
We're in Forest City for the Winnebago Grand National Rally and to get some service work done while we're here. |
22 |
July 24, 2010 |
Forest City, IA to Topeka, KS |
Deer Creek Valley RV Park - Site #50. One of the top ten RV parks we have ever stayed in. All concrete pads, roads, beautiful grounds, NICE!! |
23 |
July 25, 2010 |
Topeka, KS to Siebert, CO |
Shady Grove WiFi Campground - An old RV park that's a little depressing looking like the town of Siebert. Passport America rate (forgot what it was), friendly and helpful managers (owners?) It's an okay place to spend a night or two - there's not a whole lot of RV parks around this area to choose from. |
24 |
July 27, 2010 |
Siebert, CO to Strasburg, CO |
Denver East KOA - Prototypical KOA with sites that are way too close together and overpriced - we're in site #39. Hopefully we'll never need to stay here again. The BBQ joint just outside of the park property is exceptionally good. Be sure and try their onion rings. |
25 |
July 30, 2010 |
Strasburg, CO to Johnstown, CO |
Johnson's Corner RV Retreat - And I thought KOA's packed their sites close together! Johnson's Corner RV "Retreat" is the winner of my first annual Sardine Can award. Their website conveniently doesn't show any pictures of the campground interior. One endearing feature of this place is all of the trees are strategically placed to where NOBODY can get satellite reception unless you have a portable dish and 50' of coax (and a lot of available time to try different spots looking for that hole in the trees to the south.) Spending the night at a WalMart would be significantly better than this place. Never again. |
26 |
August 1, 2010 |
Johnstown, CO to Cheyenne, WY |
Terry Bison RV Ranch - Definitely worth a day or two stop. Eat in their restaurant, shop in the gift shop, ride the noisy and overpriced train, and enjoy the plains and critters. We were in site #75 - the campground was fine, long pull-throughs. convenient to Cheyenne. |
27 |
August 4, 2010 |
Cheyenne, WY to Lake George, CO |
11 Mile State Park - We were in Loop D, site #74, 30 amp electric and water - a nice site with lots of privacy. Large lake and nice scenery at 9,000 feet elevation! We enjoyed our stay here. Poor Sassy (the Corgi doggie) got sick here and we suspect it was altitude sickness.) |
28 |
August 7, 2010 |
Lake George, CO to Montrose, CO |
Centennial RV Park - We like this place, a lot!! It's a great place to stay in the Montrose area. If you want to do the 4x4 trails around Silverton, please stay in Silverton (call way ahead for reservations), the RV parks we looked at in Ouray were really crowded and I would rather stay at Centennial and drive just a bit further if you want to mess around Ouray, but suit yourself. |
29 |
August 8, 2010 |
Montrose, CO to Silverton, CO |
Red Mountain Motel Cabins, and RV Park - They bought out the not-so-old and failed Peaks of Silverton where we stayed in 2008. A good place to hang out in Silverton (one of our favorite destinations.) |
30 |
August 14, 2010 |
Silverton, CO to Ridgway, CO |
Pa-Co-Chu-Puk campground (Cow Creek) (AKA Ridgway State Park) - Very nice Colorado State Park! Full hookups!!! |

Ridgeway, CO - Montrose, CO |
Centennial RV Park - We like this place ... a lot - that's why we're back here!! |

Colorado River State Park - Great park and full hookups - primero! |
33 |
Sept 7, 2010 |

34 |
Sept 8, 2010 |
Ogallala, NE to Greenwood, NE |
Pine Grove RV Park - Close to I-80 and the Strategic Air Force Museum. Good overnight stop. |
35 |

36 |
Sept 12, 2010 |
Clear Lake, IA to Forest City, IA |
At the factory for our windshield leak. |
37 |
Sept 15, 2010 |
Forest City, IA to Osceola, IA |
Terribles Hotel, Casino and RV park - Sites are/were $20 a night. Our 50 amp outlet didn't work, so we used the 30 amp outlet (didn't want to move!) Short walk to the casino which has a no smoking area (at least for the slots.) The RV park has paved roads and concrete pads but the park is in dire need of maintenance and upgrades. Lots of the interior roads are in poor condition and many of the concrete site pads are cracked and heaved. Apparently the site prep work was not good - maybe poor soil compaction and the concrete probably wasn't thick enough or properly reinforced with rebar. They built the RV park on the cheap and now it shows. You pick out a site and then pay. We made enough money on the slots to pay for our site, so that was a good outcome. |

Sept 16, 2010 |
Osceola, IA to South Haven, KS |
Oasis RV Park - [Back here again!!] Always on the list of our regular places we stop when going up or down I-35. Nothing fancy, but the sites are level, long and you have full hookups with 50 amp (and you get a good Passport America rate.) |
39 |
Sept 17, 2010 |
South Haven, KS to Elm Mott, TX |
I-35 RV Park - A good stop for us when heading north or south on I-35 |
